Whether individual nations should make the sacrifices necessary to conserve energy or international leadership and worldwide cooperation are essential to protect the world's energy resources for future generations depends on a variety of factors. In my view, the cooperation is essential from individual nations as well as international leadership and worldwide cooperation. In this discussion, I shall present my observations and examples to support my view.
In the normal course, there is no denying that the world leadership has to step in and make global changes to curb or control issues such as global warming. Issues such as conversation of energy have reached a stage where they can have disastrous effects on the whole world. At this time of crisis, one would expect the global leadership to stand up, join hands with other nations and come up with stringent policies and procedures to conserve energy for future generations. For example, in the Copenhagen Summit, the developed nations of the world had to join hands and provide ways to curb the carbon emissions. The developed nations urged developing nations to collaborate with them in the hour of crisis.
At the same time, in my view, it is not unrealistic to expect individual nations to make sacrifices to conserve energy for future generations. First and the foremost reason for that is any individual nation has a right to take any decision that is in favour of the nation. In the present situation, conserving energy is most important factor for any individual Government or nation, and any sacrifices taken for it will prove beneficial in the long run. Secondly by making sacrifices to conserve energy, individual nations can be example for others. For example, Australia is investing hugely in green energy, and today Australia has set an example for other nations to follow. Developing nations, such as India and China, who produce the maximum carbon emissions, have taken an accord to curb carbon emissions and invest more in greener energy. This step by the two most powerful developing nations in the world, has come after Australia declared its technological innovations in green energy.
In sum, I agree that stringent policies have to be adopted by international leadership and world cooperation for conserving energy. But at the same time, individual nations should be ready to make sacrifices for conserving energy and protecting the country from global warming.
