B-School Prep Class?

Hi!

I was reviewing a B-School application guide, and it said that if my college courses weren't strong in math (which is true, I majored in Sociology and only took one statistics class), I should register for Accounting/Finance/Econ classes before even applying to schools, mostly to strengthen my quant background and show that I'm serious about academics. Has anyone else done this?

And if so, what should I look for in a class? I live in NYC and NYU offers an 'Accounting and Finance for Grad Students' course durnig the summer, which sounds like it would fit. Has anyone ever taken this, or have classes at NYC schools they could recommend?

I too live in NYC and I'm taking classes at NYU SCPS mainly to get my certificate in Digital Media Marketing, but I did take an Algebra Review class in order to prepare for my gmat prep class. I asked someone if I should take a more Quant intensive class, and they said "no the algebra class would be fine"... I'm not sure if I agree with this, as Algebra is JUST Algebra, but since I have to take a couple more classes to finish my certificate, I can't afford to take a more intensive Quant class. But I think that if you can take the account/finance class and get an A then sure... might as well go for it...
