I thought I would post my input before I sign off from the forum. I come here quite often and would be extremely unfair if I just walk off.
I am shooting for an executive MBA program offered by a top school. The requirement for EMBA GMAT score is not as high as the full time programs. I was told that 680 is good score for the program and I was just targeting that. To my surprise I just got that. I am neither thrilled nor disappointed. I know that I could have scored much more if I had spent 8 more weeks. But I don't have the luxury as deadlines are coming up. My busy work schedule is not helping either.
I gave my test today. I just prepared from 2 sources. MGMAT and Official guide.
I prepared for about 3 months. I started taking the practice tests only during the 4 weeks. Coming from an Engineering background, I thought I would score well in quant. But reality stuck me when I started taking the tests. Initially I was not doing well but started improving later.
GMAT Prep - 630 (Dec 16'th) - This was the first test I ever took. I did not pay attention to time. So, could not finish the last 8 Quant and 7 Verbal
MGMAT 1- 520 (Dec 20'th) - Since I was not used to MGMAT questions, I did not fare well at all. It was also an eye opener. I went back and read the MGMAT Critical reasoning and RC books after
MGMAT 2- 620 (Dec 26) - My verbal was ok this time around
MGMAT 3 - 630 (DEC 31)
GMAT Prep 2 (Jan 4) 660 Q50 V30 - My verbal was pretty low.
So I reviewed the MGMAT SCs. I reviewed the beatthegmat flashcards on the day before.
GMAT Real 680 (Jan 7) - 680 Q47 V37
Lessons Learnt
------------------
1. I spent way too much time on Math during preparation. I should have spent some more time in Verbal.
2. Math is much easier and Verbal is quite tough on the test day.
3. Math questions are of certain types. eg. what is the reminder when 7 to the power 381 was divided by 5, does a line intersect the circle given the slope, inscribed angle etc. We should take time to understand these question types. Once you understand the concept, you can tackle any problem
4. Test centers can be bit noisy. Be prepared.
5. The AWA templates are useful. I used https://www.platinumgmat.com/about_gmat/ ... y_template
