--- Proper Usage of Past perfect tense

C)that part of the Earth formed the moon, which was dislodged perhaps .

Changes the intended meaning

D)the moon was formed out of part of the Earth, having perhaps been dislodged

having...???

E)that the moon had been formed from part of the Earth, which perhaps had been dislodged

Not following the syntax for past perfect tense.

What is the difference between "that" and "which"?

That - "That" is used with restrictive phrases. Restrictive phrases are phrase. that are essential to the sentence.

Which - "Which" is used with nonrestrictive phrases. Nonrestrictive phrases are phrases that state non essential information. A phrase is considered nonrestrictive phase if the phase can be omitted from the sentence.

In B i dont like the that. As that specifies the restrictive clause and which does not , IMO there was no need for that, use of which shouyld have been correct. as scientists are really talking about the moon not how earth was formed.
