Hi Lisa,

I did 75 hours of community service because of the hairpiece prank.

Do you think it's a good idea to cite it on my applications even though it was court ordered?

How will the adcom evaluate such an action?

I'm afraid that citing these hours can have a backfire effect in that it would give them the impression that I'm someone who only performed community service because I was forced to do so, and that I would never do it if it depended on my will.

Regards,

Brz

Hi brz,

I would probably just note you did the community service as part of your explanation, but not include it as part of your activities or community involvement. Now, if you decided to continue working with an organization after completing your required hours or the community service inspired you to work with the community more, then you could certainly include those activities.

Regards,
Lisa
