Profile Evaluation - GMAT 640

by RoadtoIVY » Wed Jan 06, 2010 11:11 am
Hi Lisa,

I recently took GMAT and scored 640 (Q 47 and V 31). I am a Computer Engineer with 5.5 Years of experience. I am an Indian citizen and have been working in US from the last 3 years. I have worked in various domains such as Agriculture, Security Compliance, Healthcare, and Education. As per WES (https://www.wes.org/), my GPA is 3.58. I am planning to apply to the following universities:-

1. Western Ontario
2. Queen's
3. Rotman
4. Brigham Young University (Utah)
5. IE Madrid
6. ESADE
7. Western Ontario
8. Indiana (Kelley)
9. University of Virginia (Darden)
10.Kenan-Flagler Business School

As you can see, I do not have any location preference. Could you please help me with this. I am not sure how to start.

Thanks so much,
Manjul

Dear Manjul,

As a computer engineer from India, you are part of a large percentage of the MBA applicant pool. I do think having US-based work experience will help to positively distinguish you as will your diverse industry experience. Your GPA is also strong. Your GMAT, on the other hand, is low for this group and below the average for many schools on your list. There are a few schools where you are closer to the average, but I am concerned that you might not have any true safety schools on your list. Having said that, it is possible you might gain admission to at least one or more of these schools if you present a great set of essays and recommendations as well as a strong interview. I would suggest you might consider retaking the GMAT to try and increase your score; a thirty point increase could make a difference for you.

Good luck,
Lisa
