Goal of majority of young adults

According to recent polls , owning a living in a free standing house on its own land is still a goal of a majority of young adults , like that of earlier generations .

A. like that of earlier generations .

B.as that for earlier generations .

C.just as earlier generations did .

D. as have earlier generations .

E. as it was of earlier generations.

Ans : E.

This is another As V/s Like question . But what I fail to understand is since owning a living .......young adults , is a clause how is it using LIKE to compare when AS should be used ?

Please explain .

Like is used mostly to compare nouns

EX : "You are running like a dog" (dog is compared to a person)

As is used to indicate/relate actions.

EX : I work as a bartender in this company.

In the original example: It relates the "goal of adults" from this generation to earlier generations

Hence "AS" is used. Like cannot be used here as action is indicated in the question.

Hope you understand!
