what could I do RIGHT now to prepare?

by hongwang9703 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 7:55 pm
Dear you

My name is Hong and I am 23 years old. I graduated in January from University at Buffalo with a Business Administration degree in International Business. My dream in life is to attend an Ivy League School such as Harvard, Columbia or Oxford. I have been studying for the Gmat since May of 2009, and my score has improved very much, from around 500 to the latest 640 on Mgmat. To me that is alot because up untill that point, iv always had a very frivolous view about school and books, I just didnt care for it what so ever, which is why I have alot to make up for. I am going to study however long it will take for me to score above 700 on practice exams consistently then ace the real gmat.

I currently work at Wal-mart as an assistant Manager, a position that I started a little over a month ago. So walmart will serve as my work experience, and hopefully I will be working for the corporate in the international division, which with my Mba degree from harvard, it will be like taking a candy from a baby (i am quit fond of this saying). I want to know if i could do anything else to ensure my admittance into Columbia or Harvard, such as joining a nonprofit organization, or anything that would allow me to display leadership skill. Everyday, I would daydream about getting into harvard or oxford, and the joy and happiness I would feel is overwhelming. I am going to make that dream a reality, and the only obstacle in the way is the Gmat, which I am confident about and I am sure that I am atleast past the half-way mark.

Thank you for reading this and please give me some advice if you think it will be of help to me!
i got utterly defeated by the gmat.

Hi Hong!

Congratulations for getting a job with one of the world's top supply chain corporation! I'd say that you need to bump up your gmat practice scores up to atleast 720s...and over - in order to qualify as a candidate in H/W/S.

Additionally, build on your professional work experience and please make sure you've got some unique solid extra extracurriculars that define you as a person and ties in with your passion.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!
