Remainder

If X and Y are positive integers what is the remainder when x is divided by Y:

1) when X is divided by 2Y ther remainder is 4
2) when X+Y is divided by Y , the remainder is 4

how can I solve this algerbircally AND by number picking ?

Ok so statement 1:
I couldn't solve it by algebra, i had to pick numbers.
Take 12/8 and 12/4, and you will obtain a remainder of 4 and 0, respectively. But if you have 14/10 and 14/5 you will obtain a remainder of 4 and 4. Insufficient

Statement 2:

You have (X+Y)/Y, so it the same to say X/Y + Y/Y, which equals X/Y + 1. So the remainder 4 comes from X/Y. Sufficient

If i figure out how to solve statement 1 using algebra i will let u know
