idiom help

Hi Guys, This a PR Question

American etiquette is different from other countries in that it requires the recipients of compliments to accept them with thanks, rather than turning them aside with protest.

It was pretty straightforward Q but I was confused. I did 2/3 split, and the remaining choices were

1. that of another country 2. that of other countries

I marked 1 as the answer because I thought that one entity should be comparable to another(single). Also,I read somewhere that Different from one another is the correct idiom in GMAT. Can anyone please clarify this one?

OA is 2

There is no comparison in the sentence between two single entities as you mentioned. 2 makes more since b/c meaning in plural talks about generality/ big picture. Besides, if the original was plural, not reason in the sentence to change it to singular.
