Profile Evaluation

by dvrsrikar » Sun Dec 06, 2009 5:59 am
Hi Stacey,
Greetings!!
This is Srikar from India...I would like to know how competitive my profile is?

GMAT: 750 (Q:50 V:49) AWA 4.0
Nationality: Indian
Work experience: 7 years (fall 2011)
Undergrad: Bachelor of Sciences-Mathematics Major (3yr course)
GPA: 2.9 (Scale 1.0 - 4.0) (I am aware that it is really low!!) ;(
Industry: Education Sector
Job Function: Sales, Marketing and BD

My marketing experience so far has been extensive and diverse " from business development to strategic planning, which included expanding business to new locations as well.
Building brand value is my expertise. Throughout my career, I have designed and implemented strategies, plans and actions that have consistently delivered strong and sustainable revenue and profit growth. Notable achievements include:
"¢ Business Development Management. Identified and capitalized on emerging opportunities to outperform competition and win market share. Led cross-functional teams of product development, marketing and sales professionals.
o RESULT: Opened three new channels of business, and spearheaded the market launch of more than 14 new products.
o RESULT: Positioned a small industry player into the #1 market leader.
"¢ Client Relationship Management. Developed key account relationships with major organizations throughout the U.A.E. Implemented improved quality, productivity and service standards throughout the organization to address the constantly changing demands of the marketplace.
o RESULT: Consistently improved sales volume within existing accounts and acquired new business despite intense competition.

During my international assignments (For 2 Years in Middle East), I have invested considerable time in analyzing market trends and consumer dynamics, developing creative and innovative strategies that would differentiate my companys' products in the marketplace.

Reason for MBA: Career Advancement-hitting the ceiling, know how about Business functionality-holistic perspective, plan to shift to strategy consulting, associate myself with niche firms like "the parthenon group" (Consulting)

Extracurricular:
- Chess, Badminton and Table Tennis Player
- Walking
- Extensive Traveling
- Avid Quizzer

Social Work:
Teach deaf and dumb children every saturday at Helen Keller's Institute.

Target schools:
1. HBS
2. Wharton
3. Columbia
4. INSEAD
5. LBS
What are the chances of my getting admitted for the class of 2013.

Thank You in reg to your time to review my profile.

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Please see my comments below:

Congrats on your GMAT score. This is quite solid and will certainly help mitigate your low GPA. I have a question in regard to your degree. Did you graduate in 3 years or was this a 3 year program? If it's the latter, you will want to check with each school you apply to be sure that this program qualifies.

You have some solid and impressive work experience to date. This should certainly help you stand out in the applicant pool.

This is a sound short term goal. What are your plans for the long term? Parthenon is a great firm and many opportunities are available for those who choose to leave to pursue other interests. It's important that you flesh this out for your goals essays.

You have selected 5 extremely competitive programs. I would suggest adding a couple of back up or target schools to the list especially given the competitiveness of the applicant pool this year.

Best,

Stacey
