Victory or defeat? 700 (Q50 V34)

Hi guys,

Before I get started, I want to thank Eric for this wonderful site, the instructors for their helpful posts and tricks on many questions, but most importantly, contributors who post your questions and allow others to practice while at the same time assisting you.

I went into the exam today, the score...700 (Q50 V34).

I was somewhat happy about the 700, but was hoping for higher on the verbal. My advice for everyone would be to study your weaknesses and analyze each incorrect question, until the point you get your "ah ha!" moment. Another useful piece of advice I could recommend is to set up the RSS feed on this site - I received tons of questions through RSS feed that would allow me to go and post replies to questions - something that was invaluable in helping me keep my study routine. It also kept me occupied at work when there wasn't much to do.

I worry about the exam score as my undergrad GPA is low (3.1/4.0 from Ivy engineering), so perhaps the score needs to improve. Does Quant weigh more heavily than verbal? What are your thoughts?

I believe its a great score . Definitely a more score in Verbal would have been a sure shot case .But ,i would still say its a decent one .

How were your Verbal scores in practice tests ? .. Did you find GMAT Verbal more difficult than those on your practice tests?

My verbal scores on GMATPrep1 and 2 were ~ 38-39, so was a bit bummed by my score. I felt the verbal was more difficult on the real exam as the passages seemed a little longer. RC required more logical reasoning in the answers than just purely finding the answer in the passage.

SC seemed very similar to practice, though I saw SC questions with the underlined portions in the middle of a sentence and a parenthesis. i.e - My friend was great (strictly speaking), but he ...

That was a bit weird but nothing crazy. I also got a "which of the following completes the sentence" question twice, one of which was in the middle of the stem.
