Doubt in SC

i believe that if a noun or pronoun that is plural follow majority it takes a plural verb.

The student Majority IS opposed to the death penalty

According to Manhattan this example
A majority of railway commuters should be considered a plural subject

as there is a discripence btw Manhattan and Kaplan over subject agreement for eg.
None of my friends according to Manhattan is plural but according to kaplan is singular so we need some expert advise here to cope this kind of SC
