After lots of practice, I've decidedly to shift my focus from Quants to Verbals. Because I realized even if I get up to 15 incorrect with my Quants, I still consistently score around 45, which I think it's good enough.

I recently realized a good balance of Quants and Verbal scores can dramatically push up the scores. I also noticed that my Verbal has been consistently below 40.

But when I too my GMAT Prep Test 1 a while ago, I only got 8 incorrect for my verbal but I still scored only 38! Whereas I got 13 incorrect for my Quants, I still got 48.

Any ideas?

Verbal is scored a lot tougher than quant, and that's a fact! But your raw scores don't matter as much as your percentile rankings. For instance, a q48 is 84 percentile, while a v38 is 83 percentile! What I've noticed anecdotally is that after 40, each question you get wrong cuts off something like 1 percentile point, or even more if you get say for instance all the 8 wrong in just one section.
