Profile evaluation, please.

by Markeras » Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:48 pm
Hello,

I would appreciate an evaluation of my profile.
I am mainly concerned with my low GPA, and a certain lack of specialization in my professional life. Oh, and my age.

Here is my resumé:

Male, 30.

GPA & GMAT:

GPA: I do not have the official transcript yet but it should be in the 2,5-2,6 range. Business Degree in Top-3 Public Spanish University.

Was granted a State Scholarship for a Master in International Management in 2004. GPA should be around 2,8-3,1 but I need to check.

GMAT: 760, Q 49 - V 46

Work experience:

- 1 year logistics in Madrid (Spain). World leading automotive supplier.
- 1 year consulting/market research in Düsseldorf (Germany). Spanish Trade Commission.
- 18 months business development in London (UK). Mobile content supplier.
- 30 months M&A and corporate development in Paris (France). Engineering consulting group.

Extracurricular activities:

- Captain of District League Basketball team
- English to Spanish translator of a European football magazine during 12 months.
- I speak fluent English and French and am bilingual in German/Spanish (I have double nationality)

Main Goals

- Entrepreneur or move into top consulting company but I have to think about this more in depth. I feel that after having worked in many places, different cultures and for different industries, I have accumulated valuable experience and that it is the time to go one step further and target an MBA which will push me into another level...

Targeted Universities

- TOP 10 Business Schools. From Wharton to Kellogg.

Any insight would be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Dear Marco,

I would agree that your GPA is the potential weakness in your profile. Your exceptional GMAT score does quite a bit to mitigate the GPA. You also have your essays and interview to convey your commitment and motivation to excelling in business school. With regards to your work experience, I am not concerned by what you have done per se, it will just be important for you to present your experience in the best way. You need to show how you added value to each organization and have a solid rationale for moving from one job to the next. I think you have some interesting experience and will be able to bring a true, global perspective to the classroom. Your age is not a factor. At this point, you need to target the schools that are the best match for you and get in some strong applications.

Best of luck,
Lisa
