Find the pronouns and antecedents in the following sentences. Correct the errors if any by altering the pronoun(s). Explain the rules violated by the incorrect sentences.

When Norma and her husband read an article about Florida's adorable Manatees, they promised each other that they would one day go there and see one.

For the first they, the answer suggests that it is in a parallel position to Norma and her husband.

I need to know how it is so? (please explain this parallelism specifically as i am non-native speaker)

For the second, they answer suggests that we presume that the antecedent of this they- the people, not the Manatees.
I need to know how can we presume something like this on GMAT?

For One, answer suggests that manatees is the antecedent of one

I need to understand why "article" cannot be the antecedent of one?

"norma and her husband" is the subject of the first clause (the subordinate clause with "when").
"they" is the subject of the second clause (the main clause).
For the second, they answer suggests that we presume that the antecedent of this they- the people, not the Manatees.

if you have two "they"s in the same clause, their referent is, by default, the same noun.
For One, answer suggests that manatees is the antecedent of one

I need to understand why "article" cannot be the antecedent of one?
you actually have a point here - normally, "one" should refer to a noun that's already singular.
hmm.
in general, "one" is not as tightly regulated - or as widely tested - as other pronouns, but we should still look into this issue.

Hey Ron,

Ben Ku gave a good response to this over at your forum:
Because they read a specific article, if they wanted to see the article, the pronoun would be IT. (i.e. it would be stated "they would one day go to Florida and see IT=article.") Since the manatees is referred to as a collective, ONE refers to one of the the collective.
