I need help with my essay-please help me!

by kristin_o » Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:45 am
After attending a workshop on essay writing, I learned that a good essay is a well written, compelling story of your experience. I am half Japanese and I grew up in Scandinavian Minnesota, going to family unions I was literally a black sheep surrounding by a sea of blond Helgas and Lenas. Minnesota, in general, is known for it's Scandinavian roots. Lutefisk anyone? These experiences cultivated my appreciation for diversity. How would I incorporate this into my essay? Or rather, how can I tie this into my wanting to go to B-school? Any suggestions would be really helpful! TIA!

Having a diverse cultural background is always a plus point whether for MBA or for any job,as in todays world you have to always work with clients/team mates who come from different parts of the world. You can explain in your essay as how your diverse cultural background will help the school to enhance the ethnic diversity in their class. You can also explain how you can use it in your post-mba job to interact with clients from different countries.
You can add in other points too.

RyanDark is right, but increasing ethnic diversity in the class is not a end in and of itself. Why is ethnic diversity in a class important? What can you add as a person with this unique ethnic backround? Many B-schools teach through case study -- isn't it possible that you will have unique perceptions and reactions, making both your case studies and your discussion regarding others' valuable? Think about it like that. So you are a black sheep, so what? What do you add?
