Profile evaluation

by applicant2010 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:58 pm
Hi,

I am an Indian female (Age 30). Applying for fall 2010.

GMAT (720)

Undergrad GPA (7.8/10) (BS in EE)
Grad GPA (3.6) (MS in EE in a top 20 univ in US)

I have almost 7 years of experience. ( I have worked for 2 different companies, 2 different roles, have been team leader for projects. can get excellent recommendations)

Extra curricular : Volunteering for a NGO for the past year

I am hoping to get in to one of the top schools (Columbia,Wharton,Northwestern,MIT)

What are my chances? What do I have to look for and concentrate. Any inputs are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

What school did you do your Master's from?
What sort of firms did you work for? What kind of roles have you had (your responsibilities)? Were you working in the field of Technology? If so, why do you want to jump into finance for an MBA? Even more confusing to me (from your case standpoint), what is the point of getting an MBA in finance if you want to go back into technology and start your own tech firm?
Your story has some serious gaps. Help me understand your thought process so we can get that squared out. The committee is going to have a hard time being convinced. You really need to strategize and tell your story transparently.

Based on your answers, I can provide further guidance. Please email me directly.

You chances are pretty good. I'd give the schools a shot but you need to add some 2nd tier schools as well. I would recommend a mix of 1s tier and 2nd tier schools.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.
