by silverslash » Mon Oct 05, 2009 5:57 am
Hi Stacey,

I recently took my GMAT and acheived a far under par score then I had got in my practise tests. I got a 620 ( Q -43, V - 33) having got in the range of 680-710 consistently in PowerPrep, GMATPrep tests.

My profile is as follows

- Undergrad - Bachelor of Management Science - CGPA - 8.8/10.

- Post Grad - Post Graduate Diploma in Communications Management - premier B school in India . CGPA - 3.4/4 (Highest 3.56)

- Travelguru.com - a startup OTA founded by an Harvard B School case study winner and funded by Sequoia capital and Battery ventures US focusing on Online travel bookings . Has recently been acquired by Travelocity and is the part of their global portfolio. Started as marketing Manager - Online and have grown to be the Head of Online Marketing.

- Avid adventure sports enthusiast, quizzer and like to play cricket and squash

- Awarded the Duke of Edinburgh (Bronze Award)

- Have lived and grown in various parts of India. Has given me an outlook to be adaptable and tolerable.

Target B schools

Primarily Europe

1. Said Business School, Oxford
2. Judge, Cambridge
3. Rotterdam, Erasmus, Netherlands
4. Cranfield , UK
5. HEC, Paris

What chance do I stand to make it into each of these individual schools with the current score? I might retake the GMAT but was keen to apply in R1 in some of these schools.

Regards

Dear silverslash,

You have some interesting work experience that is a little different from other Indian applicants. Be sure to use this experience to your advantage in distinguishing yourself from the competition. Your academic performance is also quite strong, but your GMAT score is a concern. While I think it might be possible to gain admission to at least one of your target schools with your current profile, a higher GMAT score will strengthen your application. I think it might be best to delay your application to retake your GMAT, but that is ultimately a decision you have to make when comparing your profile to each school's class profile.

Good luck,
Lisa
