MS FINANCE PROGRAMS

by hokie123 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 5:46 pm
Hey Lisa,

Thank you in advance for answering my question. I feel some of the people on this site take your advice for granted. I want to get into an MS finance program and am trying to narrow a field of schools that I am atleast competitive at applying....My stats are as follows. I appreciate your feed back and can hopefully be a contributing member to this forum!

3.0 UCGPA from Virginia Tech. (3.4 last upper level/last two years)
650 GMAT (47Q, 32V, 5AWA)
internship with asset management

Do I have a chance at any schools????? If so...what schools can I get into with these credentials. I would love to go to Villanova but they have a minimum 3.2 to apply....

Thanks

Dear hokie123,

Thanks for your kind words. I think you should apply to any MS Finance programs you feel are a good match. MS Finance admissions is slightly different from MBA admissions. As such, your transcript and GMAT score will be scrutinized heavily in addition to why you want the degree. I think your numbers indicate you have the academic aptitude for a MS Finance program, so now you just need to use the rest of the application to make your case for admission. As for Villanova, I think you should still apply there anyway. Your GPA is close to a 3.2 and that might be more of a "guideline" than a requirement.

Best of luck,
Lisa

Lisa,

Thanks for answering...do you think I should explain poor academic performance? What can strenghten canidacy since MS finance programs are strictly on academic background.
Also, do you offer consulting for MS FINANCE?

Thanks again.
