Hallo,

it would be great if someone could evaluate my profile and give me a indication if I stand a chance at a top5 US/European school:

Profile

Nationality: German

Age: 26 (at immatriculation)

School:

- I studied Business Administration(Major in Finance) in Germany, at a good but internationally unknown university

- Graduated as second-best (from 110) with a "1.5" (from a range of 1-5). Unfortuantely I can't covert this to GPA grades

- I interned in Germany and in the US at two German blue chip companies (10 months in total)

Extracurricular

- I was head of a student organisation at university. We helped other students to prepare for a career as consultants by conducting "real" advisory jobs, supplemented by presentation and other soft-skill trainings.

- With the experience I gained there I co-founded a student branch of UNICEF at my university

Work Experience

- Currently I'm a 2nd year M&A analyst at one of the top three European investment banks

GMAT

- I did the GMAT next to my job, so as you propably can imagine there wasn't much time for preparation. The result was a modest 700. (Making it even worse, it is quite unbalanced and I surprisingly scored much higher in the verbal section).

Goals:

I want to stick to the financial sector. In my opinion, an MBA would help me in in establishing a greater network and to build-on more reputation.

The schools I'm interested in are Harvard/Wharton/Columbia/LBS/Insead (Full-time program starting Fall 2010).

So, what do you think? Do I have a chance, and if so which school would be most likely to accept me.

From my own perspective my application shows the follow strengths and weaknesses:

Pro:

- Work experience in Investment Banking
- Great academics
- Gained leadership experience at University
- German nationality (as I learned there aren't too many Germans applying for an MBA)

Con's:

- Comparatively low GMAT score (especially in Quant)
- Only two years of work experience by the start of the programe

Many, many thanks for your support!

what's your score breakdown? and age shouldnt be a deterrent to HBS, since they're trending younger anyway.
my GMAT debrief: https://www.beatthegmat.com/came-through ... 44327.html

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right, but it will not come near you.

My score breakdown:

700(90%) - Q44(70%)/V41(92%)

I know that top schools are looking for applicants >80% in each section. Will the low quant score be a deal breaker or can I compensate with my quant intensive work experience?

Thanks
