Help me out pls

by Rohit3249 » Wed Sep 16, 2009 7:35 am
Hi Guys,

I just gave my gmat today. It was the 4th time that I gave my Gmat :( (Out of 4 times, 3 times I wrote it within a gap of 1 year). My recent Gmat score is

600 (Apt 49, Verbal 23)

The last 3 scores are as follows

600 (Apt 47, Verbal 25)
570 (Apt 48, Verbal 20)
560 (Apt 47, Verbal 20)

In my all mock tests I was doing good. The least score that I got was 660 and highest 720.

However, on the all 4 gmat tests, I was not able to concentrate on the verbal part thinking that I've screwed my Apt portion, which is my strength (Having scored 50 in mocks most of the times). Also, the least score that I got in verbal was 29 in mocks. I gave so many attempts to Gmat since I believed that my verbal is definitely better than what my actual scores suggest. But I could not improve. Like I said, it's more of a phycological problem whenever I write gmat.
I am not able to cope up with the test pressure thinking about my Apt portion. Though, in all the 4 gmat tests I was able to get a decent apt score.

Now, could you please advice me on this. Shall I write the test again, considering that it would be my 5th attempt. Eagerly Waiting for you replies..

I think I would leave off for a bit. Four times is a lot already and you have already cleared the 600 mark. I know its frustrating to have gotten a 720 on a test run but I think you need to give this one a break.
Keep me in the loop about your thinking and let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Paxton,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Yeah. I agree to what you said. I think I need a break..but it's seriously frustrating to compare my score with those of others..For example, even if someone has scored a mere 36 in maths..his overall gmat is obviously better than mine..I understand that I'm the one who is responsible for that and not those people; I'm not complaining..:)

What I think right now is that may be I should wait for a year or so and then look for 2011 admits (but I can tell you that It would be definitely very frustrating)..I've been trying to get a decent score for 2 years now :(

Please let me know your opinion on this. Also, I don't think I'm going to apply to any schools with this score..So it does not really matter to me whether it (writing it for the 5th time) creates a negative impact on my profile.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thank you once again Paxton. I really appreciate that you took time to read my mail and replied back.

Regards,
Rohit

Rohit--

Yes, I know it's frustrating. It often feels like so elusive --like you've ALMOST got it and you think you've done everything right...and then you get another poor score.

At this point, I'm not sure that continuing to bang away on the GMAT is necessarily the best investment of your time. Maybe some quant classes and outstanding work experience would be more appropriate.

Please note: ALL of your scores from the past five years will be reported along with your latest score. So, if you have taken / written the test five times, then the admissions committee will know that.
Keep me in the loop about your thinking and let me know if you have any more questions.
