OA is B. I am little confused because the sentence has "Neanderthals had a vocal tract resembling an ape's". My doubt is should it not be "...had a vocal tract resembling an ape's vocal tract" ??

This is a an important question and has not been discussed adequately.Keep getting it wrong..
I had straight away eliminated B,C,D because of "resembling an ape's.." resembling an ape's what?!which body part?hand,leg?!The comparision is between the vocal tract of Neanderthals with the vocal tracts of ape's..

were : plural subject.

no comma before AND.

subject of first clause before end is the subject of clause after and.

so straight option C,D and E are out.
A is clearly wrong.
those of apes : those means plural
where they said
Neanderthals had A vocal tract.

So B is clear winner here.

I think the answer should be E. Here, we are comparing the vocal tracts of Neanderthals to those of vocal tracts of apes.... Other than E, none of them show a proper comparsion ...

But in E, The vocal tracts of the Neanderthals resembled those of the apes ... but it should be "those of the apes tracts" right? Or it is straightly assumed ...
