Fell on my knees in the first attempt - 660, Q49,V31

Ok, I have been a passive browser of this forum, have never posted a single page, but I have learnt a lot from this forum. So I had decided long before my D-Day that whatever may be my result, I would write on this thread at-least. And here I am...

I gave the GMAT yesterday - 09.09.09 (for few, I am sure this would have been a lucky string!!), and to seal on my disappointment, I got the score as 660; the split being Q49, V31. Why I said so is because I got the exact score on last 2 of my mock tests, and somehow I was feeling that I would get the same score on the D-Day as well, and I did! May be I got a little too pessimistic. I was aiming for a 740!!

I prepared for 2 months before writing the exam and from the starting only I knew English was my weak point, CR - to be specific. The worst part being: even after knowing what my weak part was, I could not improve it somehow. I used to write the mock tests, analyze my mistakes, but somehow I was not able to implement what I had learnt from my mistakes in the subsequent tests. I guess my strategy was completely wrong! Another mistake which I think I have done is by taking 7 mock tests on the last 8 days before the actual GMAT. I don't know whether because of this my mind was in its least processing state on the D-Day.

Here are my mock test results:

As you can see, my verbal score varied abruptly from 25 to 36. I was not able to control it, so I need all your help; it will be a great help for me if somebody can give me good pointers on it.

Another question is, how do I improve my CR? I had studied from OG12 and I guess I did all the questions once. But the problem being, I was not able to answer correctly the questions from medium/hard pit. 99% of the times I would get stuck with 2 options (of which 1 used to be the correct answer) and I would always mark the incorrect option as the answer!! And I am still wondering how I could maintain such a consistent performance! So kindly tell me what is the best source to study CR? I am planning to give GMAT again probably after 30-40 days.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey your score is actually in line with your practice tests, so, even if you do feel a bit disappointed, I wouldn't say that your results come in as a surprise.

There are a few things you can do for CR:
- buy PowerScore CR Bible - I used it myself and thought it was great
- buy LSAT prep books (I understand the Superprep book published by the LSAC is pretty good with explanations/tips) or use online material such as the sets you'll find here
- get the OG verbal supplement for more official practice

The CR section has many, many types of questions (as you'll see by browsing through the CR Bible), so there's no specific information I can offer. However, not that the book is great in synthesizing everything in a clear, concise way.

Good luck for your next attempt!

I think you have to wait 30 days.
I'm talking about the GMAT CR Bible. The LSAT Bible is largely the same, but it contains types of questions you'll never see on the real thing. IMHO there's no point in studying for those!

I have got few questions:

1. Generally in how many days the AWA score come, and would GMAC be sending an e-mail for the same?
2. How do I view my score online on MBA.com?

Thanks in advance for the answers!
