Hi,

I am planning to apply for Haas EWMBA program
Here is my profile,

GMAT - 710
MS EE - 3.85/4 (Univ of Wisconsin - Madison)
BTech - 9.5/10 ( From India, Technically a 4.0 GPA as I was first among a student strength of 300)

Work exp - 2 yrs as a software engineer, 4 years as a design engineer. Worked on cutting edge products. Have some leadership roles. Mentored many people helped them grow.

Extra Curricular -
VP of Public Relations in Toastmasters
Lot of Volunteer activity at work, like tutoring, interacting with poor kids at school, helping kids learn, telling them about engineering, help building homes for the poor, cleaning up nearby river etc.

Planning committe of Women's chapter at work, planning conferences, bookclubs, helping women with growth etc.

Music, singing in choir.

College Cuturals organizer


PLease let me know what are my chances of getting into EWMBA Haas. How about Full time? Will it be too tough to get in?


Also here is my husband's profile, both of us are planning to apply to Haas.

GMAT - 660
BTech GPA - 6.5/10 (Low)

Work Exp - 8 years in IT. with 3 years as a manager.

Extra curricular -
Sport captain in college, and other sports wins.

My question is, can his low GPA/GMAT be offset by his good work experience, leadership experience? Can his Low GPA be explained by active participation in sports in college?

Dear zeenab,

You need to verify the work experience requirement for the EWMBA program. Most executive programs require at least 10 years of experience. Based on your post, I think you have a competitive profile for Haas, regardless of program type. If you are looking to make a career change, then a full-time program is probably a better option.

With regard to your husband, quality work experience can help mitigate a below average GMAT and GPA. However, it will be important for him to demonstrate his aptitude to succeed in the classroom.

I suggest you both speak with the executive MBA admissions office regarding your profiles in relation to the program.

The EWMBA is not an executive mba i think, its just part time , Evening and Weekend MBA. I know many folks with profiles similar to mine attending.

Do you think 660 is not a good enough score to show my husband can cope up with academics in school? Should he retake?

A 660 is a solid score, but the admissions committee will also be looking at his transcripts for evidence of success in the classroom. Likewise, his work experience will be important to show his skill set and progression. As mentioned before, I think he would find speaking with an admissions professional at the program helpful in determining his chances with his current profile.
