Hi folks,
I wanted to reach out and get some advice on my situation. I just took the GMAT a couple days ago and received a Q46, V36 (660) and was disappointed after studying for over 2 months for this exam :( I was surprised about my verbal score because on my practice tests I generally did well on this section and may not have prepped appropriately for this. I barely finished the math section (raced through the final 4 questions in under a minute) and was surprised that I had still scored a 46. My target score is above a 700 because I am shooting for Berkeley and other highly ranked programs and I don't feel the rest of my background is strong enough to overcome a below average GMAT. A little about myself...I'm 28, female, studied economics undergrad at a well regarded public university and am currently working in the public sector as a project analyst. My dream is to get into Berkeley's EWMBA program or a competitive one year MBA program such as INSEAD or IMD. I'm aware that time is running out so I want to take my GMAT for the final time by early October.
Anyways, I am trying to stay motivated and wanted to know if any other folks had suggestions regarding score boosting strategies when taking the GMAT the second time.
I have already taken the MGMAT practice tests, 800score tests, went through the OG guide/powerprep tests, and MGMAT SC correction guide. Also picked up the Kaplan math guide and studied that.
My strategy now is to go through as many tough quantitative questions as possible (since clearly I had a time management problem), and do a lot of SC/RC questions as well under timed conditions. I feel like I have pretty much exhausted the diagnostic tests out there so I am not sure if I should focus on those anymore.
Anyways, I would love to get any constructive feedback/advice from all of you! The good news is, I have a gap between projects at work until early October so I can dedicate a significant amount of time to studying...
best,
MK

Hi Manali,
Looking at your first attempt score I definitely think you should be able to cross 700 with focussed prepartaion this time around.

Quant:

I see that GMAT PREP is missing from the tests you have taken. Have you taken these tests over and over again and exhausted the question pool? In addition if u r looking for good quant practice questions then gmat club has 25 quant tests/5 verbal tests for 79.99. I can say that the gmat club quant questions could serve as good practice but again it depends on what your budget is.

Verbal:

What do you think is area that you need to focus more on within the Verbal section?
For CR Powerscore GMAT CR bible is good and for SC in addition to using the Manhattan SC guide and visiting the SC forum of this site also please visit https://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/gma ... l-f31.html and read Ron Purewal's explanations for GMAT PREP SC questions. It helped me a lot in going through his thought process when approaching SC questions.

Let us know if u have any further specific questions also.

Good luck!

Regards,
Cramya

Thanks cramya.
Regarding GMAT Prep, I should probably give you a little background. I had an earlier, aborted attempt at studying for the GMAT back in January. I was not adequately prepared, was sick the week of my exam and ended up canceling my scores. However I did use the GMAT prep software during this period and was worried I would remember the questions when I started studying again this summer- so I didn't really look at it this time around. That being said, I suppose that was 9 months ago so I will take your advice and download the software and go through it again this time round. I'll take a look at the GMAT CLUB quantitative stuff too. I'm happy to get my hands on as much practice material as possible so the $79 value sounds good to me.
Regarding verbal, SC is definitely a weak point for me so I will focus the majority of my time on that, though I remember struggling with some of the RC questions on the actual GMAT, so I will take a look at the CR bible.
Thanks so much for the advice, time to get back at it I suppose :)
