At a certain university, the ration of number of teaching assistants to the number of students in any course must always be greater then 3:80. At this university, what is the maximum number of students possible in a course that has 5 teaching assistants ?

a)130
b)131
c)132
d)133
e)134

Plz explain your answer.

IMO D (133)

Teachers(t)/Students(s)=3/80
80t=3s

t=5

80*5/3=s=133,333333...

I used the same method. But i am still not able to understand why it is 133 and not 134 ?

If it is 133 then the ration will be lest then 3/80. M i missing something here ?

I figured that you cannot have 1/3 of a person and since we are supposed to find the maximum number we must take the smaller number here.
If we take 134 then the ratio will actually be worse than 3:80 and this must not be.

think of it this way. Ratio must be greater than 3:80. In order to satisfy this requirement, we either increase the TA to 4 or reduce the students to 79.
Since question is asking how many students, we reduce 133.33 (which does not satisfy the condition anyway) to 133.
