Request for Graham/Eliot/Stacey

by fsajjad » Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:25 am
Hi,
Could you please evaluate my profile and my chances of acceptance to schools I am targeting for. Below is my brief profile:

GMAT: 700 ( Q 49, V 35, AWA 5 )

Education : B.Tech (from premier college) - Topper
M.Tech: (IIT, very prestigious college of international repute) Among the toppers

Work Experience: 6+ years in Telecom domain(working as a technical leader, leading projects as well as involved in customer interaction)

AGE and gender : 30, Male

International experience : Good exposure in 3 different countries for a year

Extra curriculars: Good

Community services: Involvement in many NGOs, co founded one especially for providing micro credit facilities to underprevileged and now successfully running in multiple places with many volunteers.

Extra achievements: Class I officer in Indian railways (Qualified IES, UPSC one of the toughest exams to crack and considered very prestigious in India)

Expectations from MBA: A general management program with a focus on strategy/consulting/operations specifically for infrastructure/transportation/telecom domains (keeping in mind the techno managerial job in railways, which requres the above skills)

Post MBA: In the short term I like to join consulting firms to hone my skills in consulting especially infrastructure consulting(rail, road, general transportation) and then join back Railways.

Bschool wish list:

1yr MBA (Europe): INSEAD, IMD, LSB, SAID, JUDGE, HEC
2yr MBA(US): Chicago GSB, Darden, Tuck

Based on my brief profile and career progress, does the above choice of schools realistic or are they out of reach for me?
Does the above list of schools appropiate to achieve my career goals? What are my chances of acceptance especially to INSEAD and JUDGE/SAID?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Please see my comments below:

Your GMAT score is just below average for most top programs. So while it won't necessarily hurt your chances of admission it likely won't help it either. You did not share your GPA or class ranking so I can't fully evaluate this portion of your profile.

Work Experience: 6+ years in Telecom domain(working as a technical leader, leading projects as well as involved in customer interaction)
It sounds like you've had some good exposure to different areas in the telecom industry. From what you shared it appears you have had some promotions and leadership opportunities. If this is the case, you will certainly want to highlight this in your applications. Overall, this area of your profile seems solid.

AGE and gender : 30, Male

International experience : Good exposure in 3 different countries for a year

This is great! This could provide excellent topics for your essays and help you stand out in the applicant pool.

It appears as though you hae excellent leadership experience through your involvement in NGO's. You will certianly want to mention this in your essays.

It sounds like you've got well developed goals. This will be helpful in writing your essays as well as in your interviews.

While I can't give you specific odds of admission, I can say that you seem to have a competitive profile (given the information you have shared). You'll want to be selective in your essay topics in order to set yourself apart from others in your field. You may want to consider retaking the GMAT to be a bit more competitive in this area.

Feel free to send your resume to [email protected] for a free assessment of your profile.

Best,

Stacey

Hi

First of all my apologies for the delay in replying you. Thanks a lot Stacey for your great comments.

As you asked my GPA is around 3.6 ( I have been topper in my undergraduate and graduated studies)

I have given GMAT earlier and did badly (640 :( ) I took GMAT again and scored 700 and I feel I am not in a position to retake it :( .

Any suggestions you would like to give.
regards
