Taking up gmat again

Hi
I wrote gmat for the first time and had a very bad score of 530.
I plan to take it up again at a later point of time, after I feel I am really strong at it.

But my concern is will the best business schools consider my application even if a have a good score of 700+ in my next attempt? As all my scores would be available to them. Which score would be given preference? Will this first score of mine stop me from getting into some good school?

As of now i have 2 years of work ex. I plan to apply when I have around 3+ years of experience.
Please advice.

Programs will generally take your top score. And, you can always put in the supplemental essay section that you were sick or whatever when you took the GMAT the first time.

(If you don't mind a piece of free advice: next time you take the GMAT, make sure that you know your "core knowledge" cold. Stuff like triangle ratios, formulas, properties of primes, etc. The test writers assume that you know that stuff.)

I think three years of work experience should be enough. Four years is kind of the traditional ideal but...three years is fine.

Hi Thank you so much for your reply. Good to hear that programs consider the latest score.
I had a very poor score in verbal(got just 20).
Not understanding how to work on it. I had referred Kaplan 800, premier program, OG, and wrote around 8-10 mocks. Didn't have such a bad score in any of the tests.
Please advice as to how can I improve it.

- Know your core knowledge.

- Pace yourself through the middle of each section.

- Be in a hurry but don't rush. There are many traps for the rushed!
