Are these sentence constructions correct?

I came across these sentence contructions in one of the popular SC notes on this site and I was wondering if these sentences are correct...


1. He is shorter than she

2. He is as depressed as they, but he soldiered onward anyway


In the first sentence, "is" is omitted after "she", in the second sentence "are" is omitted after "they"...

This is called ellipsis. That usage is right as long as there is no confusion. This thread might help you..
