reductions!!

by fruti_yum » Wed Aug 05, 2009 6:01 am
A coat’s original price of $112 was reduced by 20 percent for a sale. If the sale price was then reduced by 20 percent, which of the following expresses the price of the coat after the second price reduction?

What is the shorter way to avoid the messy calculation?

A. $ 112(1 – 0.2)2
B. $ 112(1 – 0.4)2
C. $ 112(1 – 0.4)
D. $ 112﴾1 – (0.2)2﴿
E. $ 112﴾1 – (0.4)2﴿

OA after some discussion  ??

Coat's original price=$112

Sale price= $112(.8)

Price of coat after second price reduction= $112(.8)*(.8)=$112(.8)^(2)

A

I think for answer choice A, you meant $112(1-.2)^(2).

I agree with truplayer256. OA is A.

And the answer is $ 112(1 – 0.2) ^ 2
