6 days to go. GMATPrep heartbreak. Suggestions?

Dear all

I am writing the GMAT on the 3rd of August, which is merely 6 days away. I was fine until I wrote the GMATPrep 2 that I had been saving uptil now. I scored a 710 (Q47, V40).

Though this score will probably make a lot of the people very happy, it is imperative that I get atleast a 730 (it is not an arbitarily arrived at personal target, given my GPA, workex etc, I need atleast a 730 to make it to even a single one of the 5 schools I want to apply to, for the sake of simplicity, let's just assume that I have done my homework and researched well before arriving at the magical sum of 730).

I am worried sick, my scores so far have been

28/05 - GMATprep 1 - 720 - (Q49, V39)
10/06 - MGMAT 1 - 650 - (Q40, V38)
02/07 - MGMAT 2 - 690 - (Q47, V37)
07/07 - MGMAT 3 - 700 - (Q46, V39)
12/07 - PowerPrep1 - 760 - (Q51, V43)
21/07 - MGMAT 4 - 730 - (Q48, V41)
27/07 GMATPrep 2 - 710 - (Q 47, V 40)


After a 760 (I admit the powerprep felt like a breeze) and a 730 (MGMAT wasn't easy, and I worked hard for this score) a 710 is heartbreaking. I got 8 questions wrong in QA out of which 3 were wrong because I misread the question, I got another 7 wrong in VA out of which in 4 questions I had narrowed the choice down to 2, and chose the wrong one. I finished both section with 6-7 minutes to spare.

Now given my situation, what are your suggestions, guys?

Also, given my previous test scores, what score do you think I will end up getting? Though it may seem so, this exercise is not entirely futile, your estimates will help me prepare myself for the score I deserve, and if it's going to be lower than what I want, so be it.

I feel a bit better knowing that something else has the similar situation like mine (though less severe) . I am sure you are gonna be fine in the actual exam because you know your problem in the Quan, and it can be fixed soon.

I certainly wouldn't consider a 710 a heartbreak, but you've indicated you don't want to debate it and you just "know" you need a 730+. I'll just point out that it is pretty unlikely that a 710 is a barrier to entry anywhere -- it may not HELP you if you are in an oversubscribed pool, but it certainly will not hurt you at all.

As for what score you'll end up getting, obviously, no one can predict that. Have you been doing the AWA with your practice tests? Make sure to do that.

Really, I see questions on this forum often that ask, "How will I do?" Obviously, there is no guarantee -- you could score 780 on all your practice exams and a 500 on the actual exam, theoretically. But it seems to me the best way to get a general ballpark of how you'll score is to *consistently* score above where you want to be on your practice tests. Not just one test or two, but many tests where you are 730+ (for example) would be the best indicator, to me, that you will score 730+ on the exam.

Also -- if you're not scoring where you want to be, you shouldn't be finishing with time to spare seems to be the predominant feeling around here.

About the Mcat, I think 750 is very good, since I barely see anyone who got 770 in actual exam had got over 740 in Mcat.
However, from my experience, I got 690 in GMatprep, so things just unexpectedly happen. though I got 750 in the GMATprep again yesterday, but I do not trust the result at all since many repeated. But I think the reason for my score drop probably is because I am not a native speaker and I did good in Mcat because I got used to it (not because I gained that much knowledge and skills). So, I am now trying to "get used to" GMATprep...

Can you let me know how it is going after the test? I just realize that my test is on Tuesday instead of Monday as I thought...

@ Diep, I couldn't agree more with the getting used to MGMAT prep. I guess we have just become familiar with their tricks, especially in DS.

I wrote the GMAT prep 2 again with about 4 repeats in each section, and scored a 750(Q50, V42). I wanted a 780, given the repeats, but that was not to be.

@gmat_dest, a 780 is MGMAT is phenomenal. I am willing to wager that you'll score 740 and above in the real deal.
