How to Address Current Unemployment?

Hi,

I am almost done with my application for Columbia's J-Term. One thing i'm struggling with is how to address the fact that i'm currently unemployed. I got laid off on June 30th due to our firm's closure. When writing my essays for Columbia, should I address this? Or has it been such a short time that an explanation is not necessary? Thanks in advance.

Dear homeyg,

I think you should disclose that you stopped working for the firm at the end of June on your resume and application. With regards to your essays, if it makes sense to include it, then you should, but I don't think you need to make it a point to work it in just to state it in your essays. However, I do think you should be prepared to talk in your interview on what you are doing in the interim between the firm's closure and starting school.
