My answer would be B, but i'm not sure of how reliable the source is. For one reason, people of kerala are not called Keralans, they are called keralites

here is my reasoning,

Newspapers happens to be the main subject in the passage and needs a plural verbal - reflect!! so as is A, D and E are wrong.

There is also a problem with "Which" in many of the answer choices and this incorrectly refers to malabar coast instead of the main subject. So C is wrong.

The reason why B is right inspite of the verb reflects is that here the emphasis is changed from newspapers to the fact of the number = 40. Hence its considered a singular verb. Plus 'and' helps to distinguish this shift of focus.
