Master of Accounting

Hi everybody,

I'm currently living in Fort Lauderdale, FL and want to go to Huizenga School of Business at NSU to get a Master of Accounting. I will be moving to Rhode Island next year and I would like to know what are my possibilities to obtain a good job in RI with a degree from FL. The idea would be to take the CPA exam in RI.

Any advise will be appreciated.

It really depends on the sort of work you want to do with your degree and CPA. I would look at the requirements for sitting for the CPA. Go to the following link:

If you can get your accounting hours without your masters then I would do that. When an employer is looking at your resume, your CPA certification is what matters not your masters in accountancy. Also you can start your career earlier if you don't have to go to school. Hope this helps

I definitely disagree with the first response. Get the master's. I have a MAcc and it's opened a lot of doors for me, even before I got my CPA license.

The job market in accounting is still pretty good, even given the poor economy. RI is a pretty small market, however, you so might have trouble if you're fresh out of school with no work experience. It also depends on what type of work you want to do; if you want to work at a Big Four, the chances are very slim in RI.

Could you work in Florida for a year or two and then move? Accounting recruiting is highly regional, so you'll be able to find in a job in FL much more easily. Then, after a year or so of work + CPA license, you'll be extremely mobile.
