Here is my reason :

Possessive poison

C) Katharine Graham became publisher of The Washington Post in 1963 and only after that did it move into the first rank of American newspapers, having won high praise under her command

Do it=> always wrong in GMAT

D) Moving into the first rank of American newspapers only after Katharine Graham became its publisher in 1963, The Washington Post, winning high praise under her command

Tense error => it has to be past tense

E) Moving into the first rank of American newspapers only after Katharine Grahame's becoming its publisher in 1963, The Washington Post won high praise under her command

Yet another possessive poison.

A=> Tense is past(won). and everything else is fine.

I don't think there is any possessive poison in B and E as the pronoun "her" is correctly referring to the possessive noun " Katherine Graham's "

And what is wrong with " katherine Graham's becoming"????


Although I agree that A seems to be OK, please explain why E is wrong???

d,e, "moving ..." modify subject illogically

b is not paralel, suggesting that both "move" and "won" is after "becom"

I agree that possessive pronoun should point to possessive noun, but there are few examples which violates this rule and still correct according to GMAT..
