700 GMAT, Do I need to retake the exam???

by bjcoolj » Tue Jul 07, 2009 5:45 pm
Hello everyone
I'm a newbie. I took my first GMAT and received a 700 score as shown below.

Quant 49 - 88 precentile
Verbal 37 - 81 percentile
Total - 700 - 90 percentile.

(I'm not sure how receiving 88 and 81 in Quant and Verbal respectively, put me in 90th percentile for overall score.)
(how come other people who had better score than me on Verbal are in percentile lower than me?)

I'm mostly worried about the difference of 12 points between Quant and Verbal scores. I am thinking of retaking the GMAT since I'm aiming at top schools... (HBS, Standford, Booth, etc). Am I getting too obessed with the GMAT score??

p.s. My GPA is not great - 3.0 in Engineering.

HI I think it does not make sence to retake the gmat unless you can assure yourself that your next attempt would be over 720 -

700 is the average for your target schools so you should work more on your essays and a 3 GPA in eng is a good indicator of your acad ability
