Two SC questions

What is wrong with C
As the former chair of the planning board for 18 consecutive years and a board member for 28 years, Joan Philkill attended more than 400 meetings and reviewed more than 700 rezoning applications.
(A) As the former
(B) The former
(C) Former
(D) She was
(E) As the


What is wrong with A?
Joachim Raff and Giacomo Meyerbeer are examples of the kind of composer who receives popular acclaim while living, often goes into decline after death, and never regains popularity again.
(A) often goes into decline after death, and never regains popularity again
(B) whose reputation declines after death and never regains its status again
(C) but whose reputation declines after death and never regains its former status
(D) who declines in reputation after death and who never regained popularity again
(E) then has declined in reputation after death and never regained popularity

1. Just flip the sentence and you'll see why use of "as" in A is correct.. lemme flip it for you..

Joan Philkill attended more than 400 meetings and reviewed more than 700 rezoning applications "as" the former chair of the planning board for 18 consecutive years and a board member for 28 years.

"As" is used here as a preposition.. meaning in the role, function or status of..

The right answer should be E though.. as use of former presents an incorrect meaning..

2. Well, A doesn't mention what goes into decline after death.....

is the OA of first problem E and for the second one C?

that was just to show that "as" is required.. and I missed out on removing the former .. my mistake.. :-) lemme correct the post.. use of former is indeed incorrect..
