1 raised to any number = 1 ...broy wrote:If p and q are positive integers, what is the value of q?
1. q ^ (p - 1) = 1
2. p = 1
OA is E and I was thinking C. How?
any number raised to 0 is also = 1
from the first statement .. we have either q = 1 .. in which case p can take any value .. or p=1 ...in which case q can take any value .. since we do not get a definite answer .. statement 1 is insufficient ...
... from the 2nd statement .. we get p =1 .. but the 2nd statement says nothing about q .. so insufficient ...
combining both .. q^(1-1) .. q^0 .. which is equal to one irrespective of q's value .. so we do not get a definite value for q .. so the answer is E ..
