I ruled out out C because of 'and that' at the end

(C) that supports the theory ...... and that

meaning of the sentence should be "theory X contributed to something.

I think the original meaning is lost in C. it says that

"a recent study provided evidence that supports theory X AND THAT contributed....."

where as the meaning should be "theory X contributed to ....."
