I need advice please!!

Hello,

I did my masters in Biochemistry in kansas state and am planning to apply for my MBA this year. I just took my GMAT and scored a 680 and 5/6 in AWA.

I dont have any professional work experience but I do have 2 years of lab experience. I have a 8.1/10 in my undergraduate from one of the top schools in India. And I have a 3.8/4 in my Masters here.

And I was involved in both the Student Govt. and Indian Association here in K- State.

I was wondering if I really need to have some work experience before I start applying or should I go on and apply this year.

BTW, I am aiming to get into top-50 colleges.

I think your chances at a top 50 MBA program are realistic. These days, work experience is not as emphasized as it once was. This response to a similar question may be helpful as well:

Your achievements so far are very impressive. You actually do not need to wait to apply for an MBA. Several top 5 schools including HBS are actively recruiting students straight from undergrad programs.

The key for undergrad applicants is to demonstrate leadership and management experience. This could be through extracurricular activities or internships/summer jobs.

I would also suggest really soul searching about why you want an MBA. I knew some incredibly smart and motivated classmates in my MBA program who came straight from undergrad, and it may have been the right choice for them. For me, it was incredibly helpful to have several years of work experience before my MBA. There are some lessons you only learn at work, and it's great to know "what you need to know" before attending an MBA program.

Ultimately, it's a personal decision, and the adcomm is certainly willing to look at you as a viable candidate without work experience.
