"in that" Vs "Because"

Hi All,

In the below question of OG-11 Q51. OA is [spoiler]"D"[/spoiler]. OG says that "in that" is not used anymore. Due to that reason option "A" is wrong. The option [spoiler]"D"[/spoiler] is correct since it contains "For" which means
"because" here.

But somewhere I read that "in that" is better choice than "because". Can someone please help me understand is "in that" a better option or is simply incorrect ?

I think that was a literal comparison between 'in that' and 'because' - here the implied meaning of 'for' is because but not 'because' is used literally ..

This is what OG has to say about this issue:

"This sentence depends on using the correct conjunction to join two independent clauses. In that is a conjunction that means inasmuch as; because in that has largely gone out of use, it is considered stilted and overly formal. It also uses two words when one would do. In this sentence, the second clause explains the first one, so the conjunction for, meaning because, is the most appropriate choice for joining the two independent clauses of the compound sentence."

it looks that OG-11 means to say that "in that" is in general wrong in GMAT.....please correct if my understanding is wrong.

But in some sources we read that "in that" is preferable over "because".

I am really confused....what is correct ???
