Need help for GMAT verbal

After 640 and 620 in the first 2 attempts, I have prepared myself for a 3rd and final attempt.

I scored heavily in every practice test in quest for my 2nd attempt.
But I came a cropper in the main GMAT. The lowest I got was a 640 in Kaplan 1. And my main GMAT score was lower than that :-(

I found that I should do timed practice which I think was the main culprit.

I have the OG 10+11+12.
But OG verbal and quant reviews.

Kaplan 800 + Manhattan SC.

Should I still do the 1000 series?

Also which practice tests should I take now? MGMAT1 and 2 I have done. Guess will carry on with 3-5. Exhausted gmatpreps.

You definately need to focus on OGs of course, but if you have time I reccomend LSAT Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning (Logic
Reasoning called in LSAT) with Kaplan explanations.

With reading I think it helps, because the texts are so much longer and once you practice them those ones in GMAT seem way small:) and Logic Reasoning is very much the same as in GMAT and Kaplan explanations are very helpful.

I have not yet passed the exam yet, but I guess doing stuff from LSAT book helped me with improving reading and critical reasoning.

Do you have a break-up or rough idea where you might have made most mistakes. Can you also share you other practice test score?

I would definitely stay focused on the OGs. This is especially important in verbal, in that you need to get a feel and an intuition for how the GMAT test makers write questions and the thought process they go through when writing right and wrong answers. Materials written by prep companies are good, too, but the OG should be the primary focus since that material is straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Your focus on CR and RC should be understanding each and every answer choice - not just the right ones, but the wrong ones, too. Get in the heads of the testmakers and learn how they think. It's a tough thing to study, and a subtle skill for sure, but that's really the key to acing the verbal.

Kaplan 2 : 640(Q39, V38)
Kaplan 3: 670(Q50, V36)

Veritas : 650(dont remember breakup)

Manhattan 1 : 670(V46, Q35)
Manhattan 2: 720(V48, Q40)

GMAT Prep 1: 710(Q49, V39)
GMAT Prep 2: 710(same breakup)

GMAT Prep 1 repeat : 750 (dont remember breakup)
GMAT Prep 2 repeat : 770 (-do-)


I believe my problem in main GMAT was not about not knowing the concepts. So, maybe I should go back and check OGs why a particular thing is wrong and do timed practice. another 7 weeks to go.

Any suggestions?

For some help with CR you might try working some Logical Reasoning problems from the LSAT. These problems tend to be more difficult and often provide better practice.
