MBA Chances

Hey Alex,

Education:
BBA Finance & Accounting, cum laude (3.3 overall but 3.5 in last 60)
- GMAT: 710
-VP of Beta Alpha Psi
-good volunteer activities
-worked 25/hr throughout school to support family.
-2 Fortune 200 internships.

WE (32 months upon mat.):
Senior Auditor (middle market international accounting firm, 5th largest here in Houston)
-promoted 3 times in 2 years.
-CPA passed
-Focus on Energy

Personal:
- Grew up overseas, exposed to many cultures.
- will be 25 in summer 2010.
- Going to China in summer for a month to teach English.

Based on my profile if I decide to apply this year, what school should I be competitive at? sweet spots?
I am thinking of applying to following schools
Columbia, Chicago,
Cornell, Yale,
UTexas, NYU?

Any chances?

Hi--

Your profile looks good but, first off, who is Alex and when did he start writing on Kaplan's forum?

Beyond that, a few thoughts:

Everything looks good except for your work experience which still feels thin. It's not your chronological age but just the challenge of applying in a very tough year when lots of people with strong finance and accounting backgrounds will be applying, too (it wasn't just for starting this fall; around this time, as folks realize what a brutal job market this is, they are going to get started on business school apps...

The other caveat, which is not surprise to my regular readers, is that at top schools there is always a lottery element. Please have some backups and don't count on getting in.
