Hii

When I was registering for GMAT on the website www.mba.com, I faced few problems:

1) I have B.Com degree (with 73% marks) and Chartered Accountant degree with 55% marks. I did this from Rajasthan (India). Now, I don't know how to convert these into GPA. And when they ask for overall GPA, do I need to include my school (class 10 & class 12) marks also?

2) Is Chartered Accountant degree considered as a Bechlors degree or Masters degree in GMAT?

3) Out of Chartered Accountant & B.Com. which one should I mention as undergraduate degree or first university degree?

Pls help me.

Thanks a lot.
Bye.... Riya

Dear Riya,

A BCom degree is not equivalent to a 4-year bachelor's degree in the US. It is seen as equivalent to only 3 years of undergraduate studies. Whether or not your chartered accountant degree is equivalent to a master's degree, the 4th year of a US bachelor's degree or neither is something you need to have evaluated by a credentialing service. The credentialing service will also do the GPA conversion for you. Your marks from classes 10 and 12 do not factor into your college GPA at all. The two most commonly used credentialing services are World Evaluation Services and Global Credential Evaluators.

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi Lisa

I have some confusions, as below:

(i) As you are saying BCom, which is 3 years degree, is not considered as USA 4 yr undergraduation equivalent, does it mean that BCom degree holders cann't apply for Masters in USA (Universities like Whartan/Harvard/NYU Stern etc)?
CA (in India) is a certification course conducted by Associations of Bodies (ICAI) and it is not a university degree. It is a course like CIMA in London, CPA in USA, etc., and CA is not a University degree.

Then, how a person who is BCom+CA would be able to proceed for further studies in USA?

(ii) You have mentioned that credentialing services like World Evaluation Services and Global Credential Evaluators will convert the marks into GPA scale. Do these credentialing services provide some certificate for GPA conversion, which (i mean certificate) is mandatory to produce to GMAT/Universities in USA or Europe?

Pls reply.
Thanking you Lisa (in advance)

Dear Aditya,

Since you do not have a master's degree in addition to your BCom, then you might not be able to apply to schools in the US for graduate study. It is best to check with each school directly for a definitive answer.

Credentialing services will return a written report to you with the GPA conversion included. You can request the report to be sent directly to schools as well. Most schools will not require the report, but once again, it is best to ask each school directly.

Regards,
Lisa
