IMO E, because had been living is past perfect continous used to describe contemporary people at that time, also borrowed is correctly used in past tense.

Firstly because it's the most concise. Also,

A- 'were borrowing' and 'had lived' don't make sense.
B- had been can be avoided as it is awkward when used with had borrowed
D- Had been borrowing is wordy
E- had been Verb-ing is almost always wrong.

The reason given was that these leaders borrowed their ideas from other contemporary women, so it can be inferred that these other women lived at same time as Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, hence we don't need past perfect form here

simple past tense refers that it has already happened and past perfect continuous refers to the women living during that time in past.

Please correct me if am wrong.
