Hi,

I will be applying to HBS2+2 this year and wanted to know what my chances would be like.

I also wanted to know if my profile would be competitive enough to try for Stanford GSB, being a college senior and if I should look at other schools.

Here's my profile:

Undergrad College: Indian Institute of Technology(IIT)
Major: Electrical Engineering
Degree(s): B.Tech+M.Tech (dual degree)
GPA: 8.83/10.00
GRE: 1530
GMAT: Haven't given it yet
Female

Academic Achievements:
Stood 1st in India in 10th Std. Board Exams, breaking previous records.
Stood 3rd in State in 12th Std State Board Exams.

Summer Internships:
1. ITC, Tobacco Division, Bangalore (2.5 months, leading FMCG in India)-
--Given a Pre-Placement offer for my work.
--Developed a machine vision system using image processing techniques for product quality evaluation (hardware+software).
--Currently being finalized and will be used on the shopfloor.
2. Caltech, Visiting Student Researcher (2.5 months) - project on systems biology and electrical engineering

Extracurricular Activities:
1.Sports:
--Member of the IIT Athletics Team since the last 4 years.
--Team Captain since last year.
--Institute Sports Nominee for 2008-09, in my tenure our IIT won the Girls Championship at Inter-IIT Sports Meet 08 after 7 years.
--Have run the Mumbai-Marathon and won several cross-country races in IIT.

2. Campus Radio:
--Initiated and started a campus radio in IIT for the 1st time.
--Built a team of about 10 students, we do everything from script writing, RJing, recording, editing, technicals, publicity.
--Incharge of the radio for next year as well.

3. Technical Activities:
--Stood 5th in the ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Student Design Contest 06, in the world, of 98 teams. 1st in the whole world (except USA,Canada). Designed and manufactured a machine to perform fishing for paraplegics.
--Worked on several other projects- like developing solar power lights for use in rural areas.
--Won awards for "Excellence in technical activities" from IIT
--Elected Technical Secretary of Hostel
--Student Technical Mentor to a group of 8 students for one year, guided and advised them.

4. UN World Youth MDG Summit(5 days)
--Represented IIT at the summit,
--Worked on Goal 7: environmental sustainability,
--Made a short film which is currently on the WFUNA(world federations of united nations associations) website

5. School:
--Elected Head Girl of my school, Asst head girl before that. Headed 25 member school council.
--Best Pupil Award of school out of 3000 students
--Captain of School Debating Team, led team to stand 2nd in city out of over 50 schools.
--Trained in classical Indian Dance for 8 years, have performed several stage shows.

Sorry for the long profile, I wasn't sure what I should write or omit!!

Please let me know what my chances would be like, and where apart from HBS I could (if i should!) apply.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will giving the GMAT change my chances in any way? I was only planning to submit the GRE score, as both HBS2+2 and Stanford accept it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, this is probably asking too much in detail, but I have 2 options for my summer now.
1. To pursue a research internship at the Technical University of Munich for 2 months,
2. To work on starting a campus environmental sustainability program at IIT, like installing solar panels, tree plantation, etc, which will take time. This will involve working with the deans to an extent, put me in a leadership role and might help me with an extra-curric reco (later this year, if I apply to stanford)

From seeing the importance given to leadership roles, I'd pick the latter option, but I'm not sure how schools view both of these. Is it possible for you to provide some insight? It would help a lot.

Sorry for the long post, and Thanks a lot!!

I think I responded to you on the BW Forum. Cindy is away this week. Maybe she can respond when she returns so you will see if she has a different perspective.

Best,
Linda
