Is this copied correctly? I don't think there should be a comma in the middle of the sentence. Semicolon, perhaps, dash, sure, or even nothing (depending on the second half). Def not a comma though

Presence of comma uses money as a modifier to salary instead of pension. So it should have been a semi-colon
that becomes necessary to remove the ambiguity of that vs which between money and workers/worker

"worker is compelled to put away to take care of one’s later years"
shall have a correct form as
"worker is compelled to put away to take care of himself/ herself/ oneself in later years"

I picked E.

A - uses the possessive pronoun "one's", which does not sound right to me. Experienced contributors to this forum have advised others to be very careful of GMAT answers that use possessive pronouns, too.
B - I am suspicious of the reflexive pronoun "oneself"
C - same reasoning as for B
D - obvious pronoun error in "them"
E - seems like the most concise answer, and the reflexive pronoun "themselves" seems to be endorsed in GMAT SC test materials.

I am wondering about this issue too. Can an experienced poster or moderator comment on this? Why is "that" not necessary here?

Received a PM asking me to respond. Here's another reason why I tell my students not to use 1000 SC and why we have banned the source from the MGMAT forum.

Grammatically speaking, you do need the "that," which seems to eliminate everything except for B. (Though in casual language, it would be acceptable to omit the "that.")

BUT B talks about singular "worker" and the previous part of the sentence talks about "pensionS." One worker doesn't have many pensions, so we need to talk about plural workers, which seems to eliminate everything except for D and E.

If I had to pick one, hmm. I'd agonize. But really - I wouldn't pick one. I just wouldn't study it at all.

(I'm wondering whether this question originally did have a "that" in choice E way back when but the "that" got lost in transcription over the years.)
