Unlike the low status accorded the craftwork of many women settlers in the nineteenth-century American West, Native American women of the Plains tribes often received public recognition, wealth, and prestige for their craftwork.

(A) Unlike the low status accorded the craftwork of many women settlers in the nineteenth-century American West, Native American women of the Plains tribes

(B) Unlike many women settlers in the nineteenth-century American West, whose craftwork was accorded low status, Native American women of the Plains tribes

(C) Native American women of the Plains tribes, unlike the craftwork of many women settlers in the nineteenth-century American West,

(D) The craftwork of many women settlers in the nineteenth-century American West was accorded low status, while that of the Native American women of the Plains tribes

(E) While low status was accorded the craftwork of many women settlers in the nineteenth-century American West, that of Native American women of the Plains tribes


I chose E. The answer is B. How? I thought whose refers to American West. Can anyone please explain?

I chose E. The answer is B. How? I thought whose refers to American West. Can anyone please explain?
IMO [spoiler][/spoiler]

[A]- Low status is compared to Native American women
- Right comparison. Many women...American West compared to Native American women
[C]- Native American women compared to crafts work
[D]- I had chosen these as one of the contenders; however, did not make the cut because [spoiler][/spoiler] is much clearer.
[E]- What does that refer to- the low status or the craftwork?

Just note this:

Unlike X, Y

X and Y should be grammatically and structurally parallel

Only B does that and compares women properly

Tip: with like or unlike, X and Y will always be nouns.

Even if you dont know this, select a comparison that compares apples to apples
