The Q stem can be rewritten as follows
450 <= x <= 549
350 <= y <= 449


It is obvious that the individual stmts will not satisfy.
we need to determine whether the answer is C or E.
For that choose the boundary values and add them
ie. 450 +350 = 800 ==>nearest hundred = 800
but 499 + 399 = 898 ==> nearest hundred = 900

Two different values for x+y so Answer is E.

The key take away is to find the range (mentioned in bold)
